About SAR

About SAR, Inc.

Our Purpose and Our Mission

Our purpose is to conduct scientific research and development of, and obtain industry consensus on, the adoption of standards for reporting product and service test results relating to the accessibility requirements of people with disabilities.

The mission of the corporation is to reform the way industry accessibility test results are generated and reported, and foster the adoption of new standards by vendors and product review providers.

To achieve the mission, our goal is to create:

(a) industry consensus standards for reporting the results of accessibility tests that laypersons can easily comprehend.

(b) industry consensus standard methods for validating that given test processes can reliably generate the standardized test reports in (a).

educational and outreach resources to promote the understanding and adoption of (a) and (b).

How (and Why) We Create Reporting Standards

We are building a membership of industry professionals to develop and vote (gain consensus) on standards relating to the reporting of:

  1. Website accessibility (sites people use use every day)
  2. Consumer technology products (everyday gadgets and goods you can find at your local ‘big box’ retailer, from mobile phones to refrigerators)

These standards are our starting point. Further standards are planned for other apects of digital accessibility and beyond.

The standards are developed by contractors, along with member consultation, oversight and direction.
